Preparing for Surgery

There are a lot of preparations that go into getting surgery on our end, and on yours. It is important that you are playing an active role in this process and getting all necessary pre-testing and pre-registrations completed. We want to assure that you are both physically and mentally prepared for surgery for the most successful result.

After Dr. Klimisch indicates surgery is medically necessary for you, you will be given a packet of information. You should read this packet thoroughly at least 1 or 2 times. Most of the questions that you have regarding before, during, and after surgery will be answered in the packet. There is also a preoperative checklist that you can use as a guide before the procedure.

You will also be given a list of medications that will need to be stopped prior to surgery. In addition to this, smoking and drinking will need to be suspended.

Getting Cleared for Surgery

You will need medical clearance to proceed with a Total Joint Replacement, Hip or Knee. You need to make an appointment with your primary care physician so that they can clear you for surgery. Depending on any other medical conditions, you may need other specialists clearances too. Dr. Klimisch or our surgical coordinator will inform you of this when you schedule surgery.

Arthroscopy patients may or may not need these clearances.

Please let our staff know if you have any infections or medical conditions as these may affect your surgery.
